Tips on Picking the Perfect Wedding Band

The hard part is done: you got your engagement ring!

...or, so you thought. Now you’ve got to find the perfect wedding band to go with it! Before you go ring shopping and say “I do” to the wedding band you think you want, check out these tips first to make sure your first buy is your only buy.

1. Don’t be afraid to try out something different.

You might have been firm on a specific eternity band, but what is that nagging feeling to check out that rose gold chevron band? If it’s out of your comfort zone but for some reason you’re still attracted to it, try it on anyway. You might be pleasantly surprised at how good the band will look with your engagement ring! Similar to wedding dresses, you’ll never know until you put it on.

If you aren’t stylistically adventurous, that’s also okay! You’re more than welcome to just go for a classic choice like a gold band. If you want to branch out a little bit, find your stylish friends for some wedding jewelry shopping backup.

2. Define your personal style.

Do you gravitate towards simple and minimal pieces like solitaire rings? Or are you a lover of all things bling and prefer three-stone rings or gemstones? You’re going to be wearing your wedding band every day, so make sure it’s something that fits your overall aesthetic and personality. Don’t feel pressured to put something flashy on your ring finger if you know you feel more comfortable in classic styles and vice versa.

Do plenty of homework here. Look around, get inspiration online or just in your day-to-day life. Maybe try not to stare too intently at people’s hands, but it could be a good way to discover the type of ring that works for you. The point is, you want to consider this a fact-finding mission so you get the perfect wedding ring.

You’ve already got the perfect engagement ring, so don’t be afraid to ask your jewelry designer for recommendations based on your ring style. A professional is going to have plenty of thoughts on which precious metals or styles of wedding bands will best complement your ring.

3. Pick out a wedding ring set instead.

If you want an easy option that’s still stunning, consider getting a wedding set! While this does take the element of surprise out from your partner unveiling the ring to you, if that doesn’t matter, then a wedding set is a great option. Wedding ring sets are made to look beautiful together and to sit flush. What more could you ask for?

4. Don’t be afraid to sleep on it.

This is a big decision and you don’t want to rush in. If you aren’t 100 percent sure you love that rose gold style or that tungsten band, it’s perfectly fine to sleep on the decision. Take some time, try living with the decision and see if you feel satisfied with it after a few days.

5. Look into the future.

Trends come and go, and some trends are here to stay. What matters though is what you will think of your ring five, 10, 15, 20+ years from now. Is the yellow gold style something you’ll love for many years? Or do you think you’ll abandon ship and want a different ring metal come next season?

Now, a wedding band doesn’t have to be for the rest of your life. If you want a refresh after a decade with a new style, that’s perfectly fine. The right ring stays with you for a lifetime, but you can definitely experiment with different band styles and options. If you really do your research and get good advice, you’ll get to your wedding day and realize you made the right choice.
